The Governor General, the Right Hon Dame Patsy Reddy, has given the Royal Assent to our Bill and so now our settlement is an Act of Parliament.

I've booked a room for August 26 (Saturday) from 9am - 4pm at the Tauranga Library where you can work on Maori Land Court Minute Books to produce personal whakapapa and access other material such as the Steedman whakapapa books and notes and Waitangi Claims Reports etc.

I will be there from 9am - 4 pm and people can come and go at any time or free to stay all day.
Those with lap tops and digital cameras bring these along.

TE TĀWHARAU O NGĀTI PŪKENGA TRUST

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS and INVITATION TO REGISTER

One Trustee and one Alternate Trustee from our Maketu and Pakikaikutu kāinga (four people in total) are being sought this year for the Te Tāwharau o Ngāti Pūkenga Trust (the Trust).

Kāinga hui have been held to nominate at least two candidates from each kāinga for these positions. The candidates are:

Pakikaikutu
Bruce-Kingi, Waimarie
Pitman, June Elizabeth

Maketu
Hokowhitu, Whakarongotai
Moko, Mereana

As per the Trust deed, Registered Members of each kāinga have the opportunity to nominate further candidates. Nominations open on Thursday 13th July 2017 and close at 5pm on Thursday 3rd August 2017.

Nominations must be made on the official Nomination form which is available from the Trust website HERE or from the Trust office (details below). Each nomination paper must be signed by the candidate and two registered adult registered members of Ngāti Pūkenga, all of whom must be listed on the Ngāti Pūkenga Register for the kāinga the candidate wishes to represent. Candidates must also acknowledge that they will accept election as an Alternate should they poll in second place and submit a profile statement with their nomination paper for dispatching with the voting papers.

INVITATION TO REGISTER
The Trust also invites anyone who has not already registered, aged 18 years and over and with the appropriate whakapapa, to enrol on the Ngāti Pūkenga register. Application forms for registration may be obtained from the Trust website www.ngatipukenga.com or from the Trust office (details below).

Ngāti Pūkenga Claims Settlement Bill

Second Reading, Thursday 6th July 2017

The Second Reading for our Ngāti Pūkenga Claims Settlement Bill is in Parliament this Thursday, 6 July 2017, from approximately 10.20am – 11.40am. We are not sending a formal delegation but if you happen to be in Wellington and would like to attend, please do so.

Also, a reminder that our Third Reading is set down for Thursday, 10 August 2017 and we will be organising transport and accommodation for this. If you are interested in making this historic trip with Te Tawharau please email our office at tetawharau@ngatipukenga.com and register your interest. Confirmed arrangements and travel details will be communicated to whoever has registered their interest. Details will also be posted on the website and facebook page.
